The Usui System of Natural Healing, otherwise known as Reiki (Ray-Key) is a gentle and passive form of hands on healing. While the art itself is thousands of years old, its secrets were rediscovered in the Tibetan Surtras by a man named Mikao Usui in the early 1900’s, and then it was then later introduced to the West by a woman named Hawayo Takata.
The word ‘Reiki’ means Universal Life Energy, and is essentially the energy that sustains all life on our planet, be it human, animal or plant. This healing art is based on the Eastern concepts of energy flow within the body and works to assist in healing on the physical, emotional and spiritual levels through the transmission of Universal Life Energy. Reiki is neither a religion (since it has no creed or dogma) nor a belief system. It is a non-denominational and non-intrusive healing system, which works by stimulating the mechanisms that are in responsible for your body’s maintenance.
Our bodies inherently know how to heal themselves; if we are sustain an injury or succumb to infection; our bodies immediately begin the healing process behind the scenes with no conscious direction on our part. The effectiveness of this healing process is generally dictated by how much energy we have at our disposal, and hence, the practice of Reiki is simply a means to enhance our natural ability to heal ourselves.
As with all forms of vibrational healing and etheric touch, Reiki works with both the physical and subtle bodies holistically. It is an intelligent energy that goes to the point of most distress, and works for the highest good of the organism encouraging the restoration of balance and harmony to the system. It is also able to bring emotional issues that are the root cause of physical ailments to the surface where they can be dealt with as it helps to develop conscious awareness.
Reiki promotes a deep feeling of relaxation and is highly effective in the treatment of stress and stress related disorders, it combats both fatigue and sleeping disorders and is also extremely good for pregnant women and babies. Reiki compliments all other forms of healing and traditional (allopathic) medicine.
A Reiki practitioner is someone that has been attuned to facilitate the passing of Universal Life Energy in much larger quantities than the average person, but ultimately, it is the recipient that draws energy into themselves through the channel provided by the healer. It is through the simple placement of hands along certain points on the body that the healing is facilitated. Clients have no need to remove clothing and this form of healing works whether the recipient believes in it or not.
Today there are numerous offshoots of the Usui System of Natural Healing, which is the traditional form of Reiki, while some of them are equally effective; many forms are a ‘watered down’ version of this original art, where attunements have been passed from Master to student in a slap-dash, sub-standard or rushed manner. This sadly over time has led to an adverse reputation for this beautiful form of healing, where people have received sub-standard or ineffectual treatments at the hands of unqualified or poorly attuned individuals. This is why at Earthmajik the original form of Usui Reiki is both practiced and taught, with a Master’s degree constituting a twelve month programme before final the final attunement is passed to students.
