Hi Everybody

This month I have a bit of a rant that I need to get off my chest. I’m finding that the longer I do what I do, the more removed I become from the ‘real’ world. Now don’t get me wrong, this is not a bad thing in the least, it’s really nice in ‘my’ world, the people are really friendly, and the weather is always nice even if it’s raining and cold….but, the thing with being removed from the real world is that you tend to be an outsider, and what outsiders are often found doing is observing… so here comes my rant.

I am a bit (okay very) repetitive with a few of the things I say, and one of those things is that: ‘we are so much more than the sum of our visible parts’… Now, something that has been getting stuck with me every time it happens since I opened the healing sanctuary last year, is how people define (or box) one another by what they do. I think the reason this has happened to me is because when someone now asks me what I do, I no longer have the standard safe response of ‘I am an accountant’ handy…

The other night at a dinner function, someone leans across the table with the categorising ice-breaker “So what do you do?” I think I looked a bit like a bunny in headlights as my mind raced to find “the box” I would put myself in. And during those few seconds as this person seemed to grow confused at the length of time my response was taking, I simply stared at him with my mind racing:

Am I a teacher because I do courses, a healer because I do therapy, an accountant because I do my own books, a web designer because I do my own website? Or am I a writer because I write courses, workshops and articles, a spiritual development consultant because I give the courses I write, or am I just a housewife because I do washing, cooking and dishes in between all the other stuff I do? And then I sell stuff too… My mind reeled.

“Um…” I said, “I give people reiki, I have a healing sanctuary.”

Man was that a small box or what? But there I was, cramped, bagged and tagged… He seemed a bit confused, quickly recovered and said knowingly “ohhh…”

I’ve decided that the next time someone asks me what I do I’m just going to answer “Lots of stuff” and then someone best help them if they ask me what; they’d better have a long time to sit and listen as I go through the list…

But that is not what people want nowadays; we simply want to put each other into neat little boxes with a simple defining question like “So, what do you do?” And then, if you do something that can benefit what I do, we have a common ground and a reason to have a conversation. And I find that very superficial, and very sad, and we all do it, all the time.

When do people really get to know each other for who they are instead of what they do? Can’t we find a more real way to break the ice? Does it matter if I’m an accountant, a housewife, a healy feely or all of the above? Does that tell you who I really am? If you told me you were an IT consultant, a lawyer, a travel agent or a personal assistant; would that tell me who you are? Are you happy to be boxed by your career? Wouldn’t you rather be boxed by something else? What if you hate doing what you do, would you add the postscript of, “but I hate my job?” for clarity and a bit of extra space in your box?

So there you have it. Hi, my name is Cesca, and I do stuff… Leaves a lot more room in my box for movement I think. Have you considered your box? See if you can find a way to get around the “So? What do you do?” conversation, I’m sure if we all found different ways to break the ice we would soon discover a multitude of people we could have meaningful conversations or relationships with when we stop boxing each other by what we do.

That’s enough of my rambling again, hope you enjoy the newsletter below. I have updated information on the courses, therapy and products pages, and am very excited to be including Khayanite crystal pendants in my products as well as officially launching the Earthmajik Himalayan Crystal Salt Grinders for healthy cooking and eating:)

Until next month, hope June is good to you in every way :)

Love and light

14 Reasons To Raise Your Consciousness

What are the actual benefits of becoming more conscious?  Why would anyone care to do this?  And what the heck does it even mean to raise your consciousness anyway? While raising your consciousness can certainly enhance your spiritual development, this isn’t really a spiritual issue at its core.  It’s really about hardcore mental development. What does it mean to become more conscious?  I define it as the progressive realization of conscious mastery over your mind. This includes all of the following...read more

Gemini ~ The Twins

Gemini is the Third Sign of the Zodiac, associated with storytellers, communicators and youth. This Sign is symbolized by Twins who are, in and of themselves, their own representatives since no particular animal appears to be associated to this Sign of the Zodiac, with the possible exception of the wolf and its connection to the nurturing of Romulus and Remus, mythologic founders of Rome. In Egypt, Gemini was once known as the "Two Stars," named for Castor and Pollux which are the two brightest celestial bodies within the constellation. These stars have also been formerly referred to as... more

The Prophet – On Religion

And an old priest said, "Speak to us of Religion." And he said: Have I spoken this day of aught else? Is not religion all deeds and all reflection, and that which is neither deed nor reflection, but a wonder and a surprise ever springing in the soul, even while the hands hew the stone or tend the loom?... more
