Corporate Wellness

At Earthmajik we realise that there are few places that are more in need of the gentle support vibrational therapy can provide than the high stress corporate environment.

The term ‘corporate wellness’ is becoming more common by the day, with especially the larger companies instituting wellness days and programmes for their staff. Unfortunately, many of these programmes revolve solely around the management of existing disorders such as blood pressure, diabetes and cholesterol, offering information on quitting smoking and getting physically fit. Many times the gap in this approach is that they are not really creating an awareness of underlying source of the conditions.

According to a recent study conducted among 60 employer groups, South Africa is losing an estimated R12 billion a year due to absenteeism. A significant proportion of the reasons for this are related to stress illness. Bouts of flu, feeling run-down and exacerbating existing conditions by over-working and neglecting wellness all contribute to this cost to business.

At the end of September 2006, The Council for Medical Schemes published its annual report, highlighting the financial movements in the medical schemes sector. R45.8billion was paid out in claims, which marked an increase of 12.2% paid out the previous year. From hospital services to payments to medical specialists and general practitioners, money paid out by medical schemes has continued to show high annual increases.

There are greater costs that need to be considered however. People never want to be sick, absenteeism at work invariably just leads to more stress on the person who has had to take a few days off to recover, which in turn only exacerbates the cycle of recurring stress related illness. When people are not present to do the work they are employed to perform, the work suffers. This affects revenue and lessens productivity, as well as placing added pressure on neighbouring employees, which may in turn become absent due to the additional work they are required to perform. The knock-on effect in this scenario is obvious.

Prolonged stress will always lead to the associated emotions of:

  • frustration
  • anger
  • negativity
  • despair
  • helplessness
  • feeling undervalued and unacknowledged

Without appropriate management, these symptoms will translate into the behaviours of:

  • burnout
  • absenteeism
  • high staff turnover
  • demotivated and demoralised employees

There are simple ways to implement a cost efficient wellness program in a company of any size. People spend significant portions of their lives at the office, and it is in the interest of both employers and employees to look after their wellness. Nobody wants to spend at least eight waking hours of their day in an environment in which they are not happy, and from a company point of view, looking after employees motivates them to work better, smarter and harder. With a well suited wellness program in place, staff turnover and absenteeism will naturally decline and the working environment will markedly raise productivity and efficiency.

At Earthmajik we offer the following services to companies seeking to incorporate alternative healing to their corporate wellness programmes:

  • We gladly attend wellness days to raise awareness of the benefits of alternative therapies as well as the Chakras and their impact on physical, emotional and mental wellbeing.
  • One on one Chakra reading sessions with employees done to explain the current state of their energy systems and how this is affecting them, also giving them an opportunity to discuss these issues in a supportive environment. These can be arranged as stand-alone sessions, or include Chakra balancing oils for the employees to work with going forward.
  • Mini workshops designed to introduce people to the human energy system, Chakras and the concepts of body-mind healing.
  • Meditation workshops.
  • Indian Head Massage treatments.
  • Reiki or Gaea treatment sessions.
